The young boy felt a tap on his shoulder, and--knowing who it must be--turned to see Eevana hopping in his field of vision. She pointed the tip of her wand at his face, words happy and face even happier. The Slytherin wrinkled up his nose at the wand pointing at him, trying not to smile. He quickly flashed a hand up, gently batting her wand away with his own, pointing it at her with a flourish. "Please, I've been ready!" he teased in a friendly, challenging tone, eyes sparkling. He loved their relationship, loved the way they could interact with one another and how he felt confident that she could tell when he was joking and when he was serious. He loved that they could joke, and be silly, and he loved the way they talked. He loved the way he was around her, and he loved how she was too. It was nice, to have a friend. Especially one here, he felt. Having a friend to share Hogwarts with was quite the blessing. He felt that his life had never been better.

She bit her lip as she grinned, lowering her wand away when he brushed it with a hand. She stuck it in a pocket of her robes and adjusted her bag, her eyes glittering with amusement at his words. Eevana crossed her arms over her chest and lifted a brow at the boy. "Sure," she huffed back in a childish manner, still grinning widely. With a glance around the corridor, she stretched on her toes and yawned once, then snapped her green gaze back on Nofalo. "Let's go outside while it's still light," she suggested. Perhaps they could wander about the grounds now, and then venture into the library later, if they had time. Surely the outdoors would prove to be quite interesting. Eevana definitely wanted to see the Lake, as well as the Whomping Willow--from a distance, of course. She wrinkled her nose a moment, and patiently stared back at the boy, still bubbling with excitement. They had a whole two-and-a-half hours to goof off and play. She couldn't be more pleased with things. She had a friend, and she had a new home. It was perfect.

He huffed at her words, letting his wand arm fall to his side. The boy nodded his agreement, and happily they started off towards an exit at the end of the hallway that led out into the main back courtyard. The doorway was a decent distance away, so he flicked his gaze to her, smiled mischievously, and splurted out, "Race you!" and took off at a run before she had a chance to respond. He slowed a bit to make sure she was coming too and that it would be fair, but at the quick footsteps behind him he realised he shouldn't have slowed down. With an elated laugh, the Slytherin pounded down the hallway, his bag heavy from textbooks bumping a bit painfully against his legs--but he didn't care. His wand flailed about against his side from within the wand pocket, but he knew the pocket was deep enough that it wouldn't fall out. Still, he payed extra attention to that. He felt a hand on his shoulder, trying to pull him back. "No!" he laughed in protest breathlessly. The two thundered out into the courtyard, breathless and laughing, eyes shining with joy. He thought he heard her mutter with a smile to her voice "You're no fair," as they stooped to catch their breath. He looked up at her through his dark bangs, "You still caught me though, huh?" he teased, sticking out his tongue. She gave him a playful shove, which nearly sent him sprawling on the cobblestones from his rather unbalanced and out-of-breath position, and trotted ahead to get out into the grassy grounds of Hogwarts castle. Nofalo followed his friend, smiling still. "I don't care where we go first," he murmured, as they stood gazing out across the gentle rolling slope, the green grass shining with the evening light. He didn't care where he went, as long as it was with this petite Ravenclaw girl standing next to him. They were fast friends already, and it felt right.

Eevana stood on the crest of a hill, staring down at the landscape that was spread before them. She wiped her hand across her brow, still breathing rather hard from the run, and turned her gaze cheerily towards her friend. "Let's check out the lake!" she suggested, beginning to step carefully down. It was rather steep and rocky here, so she put out her arms for balance, swaying slightly as she descended to a slightly flatter area. The young blonde hopped onto an outcropping of stone and waved her arms again, paddling the air to stay upright. She hopped off, lifting her head, and continuing towards the dark expanse of water below. It smelled so nice out here, reminding her of her woods at home, and she felt a prickle of homesickness that was unwanted. Shaking herself a little, she glanced back to Nofalo and offered him a smirk. "C'mon!" she urged, and picked up her pace a little. She heard the thuds of his shoes on the ground, meaning he was moving faster too, and she clutched her wand and bag tight as she ran down the slope. The land swept out, the hill turning into a flat grassy expanse. Trees dotted the edge of the lake. It was a lovely setting, peaceful. The little waves lapped at the edge of the land, and Eevana slowed down as she neared the shallow water. She bit her lip and stood still, getting her breath back again. It was so pretty.

Nofalo stumbled after his friend, clumsy as he was. He nearly sprained his ankle three times struggling to keep up on the uneven, rocky ground. He finally quick-stepped down the slope to a stop, able to slow his momentum enough to end beside her with only minimal awkward flailing of arms. The breeze was cool, gently stirring the water's surface, and Nofalo closed his eyes and breathed it in. His bangs flicked gently against his forehead, their robes flapping just slightly in the wind. The boy opened his blue-green eyes, looking far across the water. Forests banked the Great Lake on the far sides, with patches of field strewn around that were only visible due to the occasional sloping hill. The water was fairly clear, but the lake was deep, and they couldn't see too far down once it got past ankle-depth. The Slytherin boy glanced over to Eevana, her blue striped tie blown askew against her robes from the wind, stray blonde hairs that had escaped from her braid blowing like strands of golden thread in the low sunlight. With a slight smile, Nofalo adjusted his bag strap and stepped around and behind her. He slipped on the mud a bit, but managed to regain balance before he slid into the water or got his robes dirty. Raising pale hands, he lifted his bag overhead and laid it down against a nearby tree, stepping carefully around unearthed roots and slick mud to the lakefront side of the trunk to lean lightly against the bark. Enjoying the shade, the breeze, and the feeling of the rough wood on his back, Nofalo breathed deeply once more before asking, "How should we try to draw out the Giant Squid?" He wanted badly to be able to see it with his friend, to even just glimpse a bit of shiny wet tentacle breaking the surface for just a breath. He of course didn't want to hurt the creature, nor anger it, but he was excited and happy, and he liked exploring with the Ravenclaw girl standing with him by the lake's edge.

Still awestruck by the sights, Eevana stayed put for a few more moments before starting slightly and glancing around to her friend. She brushed some of the dust of the front of her robes, then lifted her own bag over her head and dropped it down next to the boy's. She nudged one of his legs playfully with her foot, and rolled her shoulders in a shrug. "I dunno. I suppose it must be far out there, deep down. How could we even get its attention?" she rambled, staring back out across the shining stretch of water. Eevana crouched down in a squat and inched closer to the edge of the water, her shoes pressing in the soft mud. She didn't dare get too close, not wanting to slip and get her robes muddy. That'd be just great on her first day. She stuck out a hand and poked the surface of the water, watching the ripples peal away into nothing. "Know how to summon squids?" she joked, turning back towards Nofalo with a cheeky grin on her face. The Ravenclaw straightened up, wobbling a little, and tottered back to her friend, where she slumped down against the same tree, stretching out her legs over the soil.

As his friend nudged his leg, he returned the favour almost absent-mindedly. He hummed in agreement and in slight thought at her words, one of his hands resting against the tree and his pale fingers feeling the rough grooves of the bark. He watched her as she prodded the water, a slight smile on his face. He snorted in laughter at her joke, stretching his arms above his head as she carefully made her way back to him. "Haven't the foggiest," he muttered, letting out a deep breath as he let his arms fall back to his side. As she neared he reached out on a whim, gently grabbing a strand of her hair. The Slytherin boy began toying with the golden locks, twisting them in his fingers as he tried to figure out how to braid. Eventually he got the hang of it--helped by watching his mother get ready in the early mornings when he was young--and carefully plaited a little section of her hair, not even as wide as his pinky finger. He finished after a while, both students calm as they watched the lake's surface wave in little ripples in the breeze, enjoying one another's presence. After several more minutes, Nofalo turned his head to look at Eevana. He studied her for a moment, before speaking, "Wanna go explore some more? We could go to the library and do that essay for Professor Elwood," he mentioned, frowning a bit at the thought of a DAtDA essay already on their schedules tonight, "Or we could always do it together after dinner." Honestly, he wanted to relax and just spend time with Eevana right now before having to think about work. Plus the food might give him some motivation and energy, hopefully. He didn't care much though. She was obviously smart, so if she wanted to work on the essay he felt that her work ethic might inspire him too. Anything they would do together would be fun.

The ground was nice and soft. She stared towards the lake thoughtfully, still until she felt something tug gently at her hair. She shifted slightly, her eyes darting over towards Nofalo, who she realized had began to mess with her blonde-brown locks. The touch was comforting, and she closed her eyes as he began to plait her hair into a teeny little braid, hardly big enough to notice. She smiled to herself, dipping her head forwards a little, quite enjoying the friendly contact. Although it wasn't long before her friend spoke, she felt like it had been ages they'd been sitting in silence. Eevana had opened her eyes and continued to watch the lake's edge. However, she slowly turned her eyes towards the Slytherin boy, interest flickering in her green depths. The essay, of course, didn't seem like such a fun idea, but she really didn't care as long as she was with Nofalo. She smiled slightly, thinking over his words. "Let's check out the library." she started, lifting her arms above her head in a stretch. "But I don't guarantee working on the essay just yet," she managed a slight grin as she pushed herself up, using the tree to brace herself. She dusted off her robes and turned to face Nofalo, offering a hand out to help him up.

He smiled at her words, breathing out a laugh. He was readying himself to rise after her when a small hand lowered into his view. His gaze followed along the robed arm to Eevana's kind eyes. He could see her minute new braid twirling in the wind, separate from the rest of her dirty blonde strands. The young Slytherin blinked and promptly blushed a bit as he averted his gaze and took her offered hand. Once she'd brought him up to standing, he pulled his own hand away to brush his robes off, glancing at her once before he bowed exaggeratedly low, "Sincerest thanks, milady," Nofalo forced a gleefully threatening smile off his lips, trying to keep his face serious even though he wasn't looking at her. He was brandishing one arm out wide to his side and the other reaching gently across his chest, a knee bent so his toe pointed back at the ground, his robes swishing as they lowered slightly. The wind played with his sleeves and his hair, and he thought he heard a little giggle from above him carried away with the scents of autumn and the cool feel of the lake upon the breeze.

He took her hand, and she felt the warmth of his palm. Feeling a little self-conscious about it, her fingers twitched in his grasp, and she was relieved when he pulled his arm away, freeing her. She too gave her robes another dusting, if only to rub some of the tiny bit of sweat that had accumulated on her palm. As Nofalo then began a dramatic act of gratitude, she fixed her eyes brightly on him and smiled broadly. So serious and so exaggerated was the bow that she couldn't help but let out a soft giggle. Eevana rushed her hand to her mouth to silence herself, and managed a straighter face. "Of course, good sir." she murmured in response, unable to keep the laughter out of her voice. As her friend straightened up, she let out a half-stifled snort, followed by escaping snickers. The Ravenclaw girl shook her head a little and shouldered her bag more comfortably on her shoulders, before taking a pace forwards in the direction of the great castle. There was a bounce in her steps, and she glanced back eagerly towards Nofalo as she slid into a natural walking motion.

His rebellious smile broke across his face at her reply, and he straightened up, eyes sparkling as he laughed lightly. His heart felt light when he heard her laughter and saw her smile. It was a special thing to make someone happy, and to have them make you happy, too. He realised his cheeks hurt him, but he didn't care. He knew it was from smiling so much recently. He didn't know if he'd ever smiled this much, this widely, in this short a time period. It felt good, and he didn't want to stop. As Eevana huffed her pack better onto her shoulder and turned to start towards the castle again, Nofalo blushed a bit and realised he thought he might've been staring at her as he was thinking (about her, yes, but she was already such a good friend!) so he scrambled for his own pack and threw it over his shoulder to follow after her, slipping only a few times on the slippery wet ground by the lake's edge. He caught up with her and they settled into an easy pace, jokingly bumping into one another and giggling, occasional hands pointing quickly at the sky to show a cloud-shape or some other scenery as they passed, making their way back into Hogwarts Castle. It took them a couple of wrong turns to find the library, but with some help from a Hufflepuff Prefect who happened to pass by and ask if they were lost--which they were--they eventually found the desired room with fairly little trouble.

Nofalo didn't know what he'd been expecting from the Hogwarts Library, but it didn't disappoint. The entrance seemed small, opening near the Librarian's desk and a few available tables and benches across from it. Once you rounded the corner, the shelves began. And it didn't look like they particularly wanted to end. They were tall, long, and stuffed to the brim with books. In some areas there were even tomes on top of a full shelf of books, tucked away because a student couldn't rediscover it's proper place, they didn't care, or perhaps because there simply wasn't room. There were beautiful wooden tables situated in alcoves of the library, benches pushed a bit haphazardly around them. Some tables were piled with scrolls and pieces of half-used or ripped parchment, a book or two forgotten and buried under the mounds. Quills stuck up in funny angles or lay on the edge of the desks. It was quiet in the library, but not overly so. A comfortable silence, with the noises of scraping benches, scritch-scratching of quills, or the rough sound of paper on paper as a page was turned. All in all, the library was just right. Perfect, like most everything else about Hogwarts. The young Slytherin looked to his friend, seeing from her face that it seemed she was enjoying the promise their school library showed as well. He looked towards the librarian's desk, but no one was behind it at the moment. Probably off sorting books, or maybe making sure no unauthorised personnel were sneaking around the 'Restricted Section' that Nofalo had already heard so many rumours about. He'd always enjoyed books well enough, but something about this library made him want to grab the most interesting-looking reads and pile them on a lone table in a corner, and pour over them for hours on end with nothing for company but the words in his head as he read them, and perhaps Eevana at his side.

[ eevana = garnet's face when she saw stevonnie ]

Eevana simply stared, her eyes stretched wide, and an incredulous, delighted smile painted across her face. She'd never seen so many books all in one place. She'd never seen anything so perfect. It had the right amount of messiness to it, yet it wasn't overflowing and broken. It looked homey and inviting. She just couldn't stop looking at everything. The tables, with benches askew and tops covered with stacks of paper and tomes, the narrow shelves full to bursting with every sort of book imaginable, and the great windows that cast in light over the scene, adding natural luminescence that made things so much prettier. Eevana was totally awestruck. She had a feeling she'd be spending hours in this place. When she finally tore her eyes from the nearest shelf (having been trying to read the names of the books), she turned her attention back to Nofalo. He too looked awfully pleased with the library. Already bolstered by the joy she felt from this new discovery, the Ravenclaw girl snatched up her friend's hand and tugged him forwards deeper into the library, directing him over to a small table where they could set their stuff down. She released his hand and hurriedly pulled off her bookbag, then pushed some of the books that were on the table aside to make room for it. She placed it down and peered around it, just to see which of the tomes were laying here.

An Intro to Conjuring, that could be interesting. Then Household Spells for the Busy--perhaps not so much. The next book, though, snapped up Eevana's attention faster than a racing broom. Animagi: A Guide. She grabbed the book, scattering bits of parchment over the table, sat down on the bench, and hastily opened it, her heart thumping with curiosity and excitement. Everything else was momentarily forgotten, at least, til she reached the end of the introduction and lifted her head to realize she hadn't said anything before diving into the book. "Oh." she breathed, staring up at Nofalo. "Look." she murmured, holding up the tome for him to see the cover. She grinned widely. "This is what I wanna become one day." she announced proudly, her eyes glowing.

Nofalo let out a surprised little laugh as he was suddenly hauled by the hand after his friend. She brought them to an empty table--well, empty of people, but not nearly empty of books and scrolls. They set down their packs and as he turned to her, mouth half-open to ask where they should look first, he saw that she was already buried into the introduction of a book that had been on the table when they got there. The boy smiled fondly at her, and sat down beside her, reaching forward to look for an interesting read for himself. Nofalo had just finished a passage about wandmaking when he was brought to attention by Eevana's voice. She had turned to him, her voice breathless with excitement and her eyes shining, proudly offering the book's cover to him that she had been so interested in. At her words, he quickly read the name of the tome, eager to learn what it was she aspired to be. Animagus. She wanted to become something else. His brow furrowed, and his face hardened behind a shadow of his nearly-forgotten mask. He could almost feel his scars stand up out of his skin. Of course, she could choose. She could be whatever she wanted, and be it whenever she wanted. She wasn't a monster, and it wouldn't make her into one. He noticed her face had fallen a bit, and he realised it was probably because of his reaction--quite an unsatisfactory one for having just confessed to him one of her life ambitions. He forced himself out of his depressing reverie, and made a smile slide across his face. "Really? That's pretty neat. D'you know what...what animal you'd wanna turn into?" he asked, trying to force his mind to be kind and innocent and curious instead of upset. He didn't want to be upset around her. He wanted to have fun with her, he didn't want to make her dislike spending time with him. He blinked, smiling wider, and tilting his head a bit to signal his curiosity, peering at the fairly nice edges of the book. It had been read, but not as much as others it seemed. It was in decent condition compared to several other tomes that were sitting on their table, after all.

Her hands lowered slightly, the book weighing down on her arms. She blinked, studying his face, the minute reactions and changes that occurred in his visage. He didn't seem so thrilled with it, rather he almost seemed upset. She couldn't help but show disappointment, merely out of surprise more than anything. She let her arms lower, and she set the tome down on the table with a thud. But then Nofalo smiled, and spoke, and she felt a flicker of relief. Perhaps she'd been scared that their friendship could've been affected. But no, he seemed alright, if still a little off. She didn't want to press, but she was curious as to why the idea of Animagi distressed him. Eevana managed a slight smile in return, placing a hand fondly on the cover of the book. "Y-yeah." she started, ashamed when she heard the stutter that had returned. She bit her tongue and straightened slightly. Stop overreacting, she told herself fiercely. "I um, I was thinking a black bear. Perhaps. Or a raccoon, or a spectacled bear...I'm not quite sure..." she went on, with more enthusiasm as she spoke of each animal. That was what she loved, after all, so it brought some of her happiness back. But she still found that the moment had been soured. The Ravenclaw slid the book to the side and lowered her eyes to her lap, staring at her black robes. This wasn't the first time she'd wondered about Nofalo. There was something odd about him, something she was almost frightened of knowing. The scars, the way her father acted, the way her owl acted, and now this. She would not dare to ask. Oh no. It was something serious, she knew, something private. She chewed on her tongue for a moment. Whatever it was, she just hoped it wouldn't affect their friendship. Slowly her eyes returned to his face, calm now, her expression thoughtful.

He felt guilt rush through him as she rather dejectedly set her book down on the table, but was glad at her slight return in enthusiasm when she listed off her animals. "So you...like bears?" he hesitated, still trying to drive the conversation so neither of them would have too much opportunity of what had crossed unspoken in that moment. His jaw felt tight, and his scars itched. He wanted to pull his hood over his face, he wanted to run away, he wanted to fall onto his four-poster bed down in the dark Slytherin dorms and he wanted to cry himself to sleep over his affliction, over their friendship, and not for the first time he didn't want to wake up. The thoughts were quick, and familiar, but he tried to keep them out of his eyes. Things were better, so much better, since he'd met Eevana. He was terrified of losing that, but he didn't trust himself that he would be able to keep it. What if it was just a matter of time? He resisted the urge to violently shake his head as he studied her form. No. He wouldn't give up just because he was afraid of failing. He wouldn't. She was too important, even already. Nofalo almost reached out to put a hand over Eevana's, to reassure the both of them. Part of him just wanted to tell her, to scream it out, but he wouldn't even think of how the other students at Hogwarts would look at him then. It would be a living hell, even more so. But he wouldn't let that happen; he would make it okay. He wouldn't run away.

...Would he?

Eevana felt bad. She'd caused the moment of separation, offering up the book like that. It wasn't like she'd known, though! It was her fault and yet it wasn't. She gritted her teeth behind closed lips, trying to shake off the annoying feelings of disappointment that still flitted about her mind. It was alright, cheer up now. She blinked rapidly a few times before nodding in response to the Slytherin boy's question, a little warmed at the topic. "Yeah, yeah I do." she responded, sitting up straighter and smiling, more genuine than before. "All bears, bears, every sort of bear. I think my top favorites are black, grizzly, and spectacled." she explained, resting her right elbow on the table and letting her head sit on her hand comfortably. She wanted to forget the uncomfortable situation earlier and move on to the fun she planned them to have. Eevana scooted her bench closer to the table and blinked at Nofalo. Perhaps a different topic would be a good idea, though. "So, um, what's that book you were reading?" she asked, nodding towards the tome he'd set down. She couldn't see the cover from her angle, but she peered in attempt to.

He smiled at her as she ranted about her ursine interests, and quickly glanced down to where his hand was resting on the book he'd set down when she questioned him about it. "Oh, ehm," he stammered, slipping his hand from the page he'd stopped at and holding it up sheepishly, "I dunno, just a sort of wandmaking book, about the history, properties, and meaning of different woods and cores and things...it's pretty interesting though," Nofalo hesitated, smiling, fingers nervously tapping the edge of the leatherbound tome. "So, should we work on the essay or..." he trailed off, setting the book down again, and looked at her with just a glint of mischief in his eyes, curious, "Did you wanna do something else first?" 'Something more fun?' he mentally added. The air between them felt easier again, and he wasn't worried anymore. He felt like that kind of thing might happen again. It was a bit inevitable, since they were already getting so close, and his affliction was a large part of his identity since he was infected. But now he felt a little bit more confident that he could get past the awkwardness and the questions and make everything okay again, with no scars and no fleeing and just the two of them, happy and laughing and just being together.

As he lifted up the book, she stared curiously at the cover. Nodding to his words, she wondered if it would be an good read. Nofalo seemed to think so, and she'd take his word for it. Lifting her eyes to her friend's face, she smiled slightly. As he continued, however, she recalled the homework they had yet to do. Part of her was excited to do it--if she'd admit that--but she also wanted to just play around with her friend. Mostly the latter, really. She bit her lip, but glanced sideways for a moment before focusing on Nofalo. "We...have plenty of time. Let's do something else." she decided in a whispery voice, as if she was going against the rules by not doing the essay first. She drummed her fingers against her cheek, then lifted her head off her hand and folded her arms over the tabletop. But now, what was the something else? She had no idea what to do, aside from just browsing around the library. That seemed like a one-person thing, though. Fun, for sure. But not really for a pair. "Um. I don't know what to do." Eevana admitted with a sheepish expression, wiggling her fingers against the wood of the table. She chewed on her tongue. Should she have thought this through better? Maybe. She didn't know. Mm, and she didn't like not knowing. The girl blushed and stared at her pale arms.

Nofalo hummed lightly as he too thought of what they could do. It was then, in the middle of his pondering, his stomach decided to interrupt the quiet with a demanding growl. Instinctively his hand flew to his stomach and his cheeks reddened as he stumbled out an apology. "O-oh excuse me, I uhm...hey, yeah, we could go find something to eat! I could go for some dessert myself! How 'bout you?" his eyes sparkled at the prospect of sugary pastries and smooth creams. Her unsure eyes told what he already knew. "I know the Great Hall isn't serving food right now but...I bet you we could snag some from the kitchens..." he trailed off, glancing at her from the corner of mischievous blue-green eyes, brighter than they had been in months if not years. He was starting to feel like himself--his old self. He didn't know whether it was good, or dangerous, but honestly he didn't really care right now. His eleven year-old mind had set itself upon sweets, and it wasn't going anywhere else any time soon. Eevana was a Ravenclaw, so he somewhat expected her to have misgivings about breaking the rules. She seemed like a well-behaved child, but sneaking some sweets couldn't be all that bad, could it? Especially if they were smart and sneaky. The Slytherin boy's stomach growled again, intent on his plans to feed it fructose in the near future.

[idc if we skip now or later. u can do whatever u like :*** if u want it might be neat to like idk we can have them try to steal a pie or somethin and then either like when they eatin it or just as they're about to steal it we could flash forward and they're eatin the same kind of pie at one of the feasts in like fifth year or whatever we wanted to do or some fox-dung and talkin like omf 'this pie isn't as good as the one we stole in first year' and then like 'well that's cuz we stole it. felony always tastes sweeter' or something xD iDK just thinkin]

Her eyes flickered with amusement at the noise, though they grew somewhat solemn upon his mention of finding food. She blinked, quite hesitant. It sounded absolutely thrilling to sneak off the the kitchens and grab some dessert, but also terrifyingly not allowed. Although, she'd heard from her brother that the house-elves were always eager to give out food. Apparently he'd been to the kitchens before. No surprise there, she thought with a small sniff. Eevana drummed her fingers on the table again, fighting temptation and natural obedience. The look on her friend's face...oh, balderdash. She bit her lip. "Okay." She relented, stashing her wand in the inner robe pocket. Her eyes narrowed playfully. "If we get caught, it's your fault." She gently shoved the library books aside, stacking them neatly on the edge of the table closest to the wall. Preparing to hoist her bag atop her shoulder, she tensed, scooting to the edge of her seat, awaiting Nofalo's lead.

The young boy hmph'd a laugh at her accusation, "I know, I know," but he was too excited at the prospect of free pies to actually sound annoyed. He waited for her to prepare, shoving his own wand in his inner robe pocket and hoisting his bag over his shoulder, before hopping up and beginning to look for the stairs down deeper into the castle. On the way, he voiced that he didn't actually know how to get into the kitchens, he just had heard they're under the Great Hall in the basement. He'd heard a few upperclassmen talking something about a painting of a bowl of fruit, and Eevana confirmed his suspicions. Her brother had sneaked in before--apparently if you tickle the pear, it'll reveal a door. Plan in set, the two first-years made their way into the depths of the castle, glad that the way was still decently lit by torches. As they descended, they naturally snuck around more and more, wary and aware that they were not exactly supposed to be here. Nofalo thought he could feel Eevana's apprehension, but when he would look behind at her and catch her eyes, he could see the excitement behind the worry. Finally, after a few minutes of wandering the corridors and jumping at every sound, they spotted a painting. "Hey, that there. Is that it?" Nofalo whispered, pointing to the bowl of fruit taking up most of the height of a wall. Eevana nodded, voicing that yes, she thought so. The two crept towards it. They exchanged glances as they stood before the frame, and both reached up to tickle the pear. Their hands bonked together a little bit and another, more nervous glance was exchanged with slightly blushing cheeks, but they were interrupted by the laughter of a little green pear as their fingertips brushed the painting's surface. It swirled in the setting of it's fruit bowl, laughter dying away into an eerie drawl as it formed a green doorknob. Reaching up a hand, Nofalo grasped the faded green knob and turned. There was a click, and he pushed lightly on the door. The rest of the painting swung back, and through the wall as a magnificent sight.

There was light, so much light. Nofalo crept up and forward, into the kitchens, hiding behind a couple barrels by the entrance. He heard Eevana follow him, and with a glance behind he peeked above the edge of his barrel. It was warm here, from the dozens upon dozens of ovens in use, the counters piled high with ingredients and half-finished dishes, a table against the wall with mountains of snacks and goodies. There were four large tables set parallel to each other, and on the far end one that was facing the rest. It mirrored the table setup in the Great Hall above. There were hundreds of House Elves milling about, cleaning and cooking and chattering about the menus. Nofalo peered through the commotion towards the rather unguarded counters. On one of them, one seemingly designated to dishes that hadn't been served at the last meal, was a beautiful fruit pie. The crust was carved and decorated with vines and leaves etched into the dough, and Nofalo could almost smell the delicious, warm and gooey fruit center. He looked back at Eevana, eyes wide and excited, and nodded towards his chosen target. Eevana looked fearful, but she saw and nodded as well. Luckily for them, the way to the pie would be fairly easy to sneak. They could follow this stock of barrels to the table with snacks, and sidle underneath it and along the wall until they made it to the chosen counter. Nofalo was preparing to do just that, when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Eevana held her wand nervously in her hand, and Nofalo's eyes widened. But he nodded at her, and moved aside so she could have a better shot. He heard her murmured words as she waved her wand, "Wingardium leviosa," and for a moment Nofalo almost forgot the purpose of this. He quickly switched his gaze from his friend to the counter, only to see the pie now floating. With Eevana's careful gestures, it scooted closer and closer to them, albeit somewhat erratically. Once, she lowered it quickly to the ground, and the two had to duck when they thought a working elf was about to come their way. After a few tense moments, they felt it safe enough to look up again, and the coast was clear. Eevana continued her charm, of which Nofalo was un-admittedly in slight awe of, and a few minutes later it was so, so very close. Nofalo reached robed arms above the barrels, scarred but pale hands eagerly awaiting the tasty burden. Eevana got it as close to his waiting hands as she could before dropping the charm. He nearly fumbled with the sudden weight, but was pleasantly surprised at how warm the bottom of the pie tin still was. Giving her a thumbs up and a wide smile, he carefully tucked the dessert under his arm and the two turned to sneak out of the kitchens. They were quick in their adrenaline rush, and the door accidentally slammed behind them, their backs against the wall and the pie clutched safely to Nofalo's chest.

Her breath came in ragged gasps, as though she'd just completed a wild broomstick race. Leaning against the wall, she let her shoulders slump, arms dropping and wand held limply at her side. The door had vanished once more, leaving just the painting of fruit behind them. She glanced to the prize held carefully against her friend's chest, a bubble of triumph swelling within her. With the success of their adventure, she felt quite proud, and was almost keen to do more risky activities like that. It had given her such a rush of adrenaline and excitement. As her breathing steadied, she ran a hand across her face, rubbing her eyes and brushing blond locks out of the way. The warm aroma of the fruit pie made her mouth water. With a gilded smile, Eevana tugged gently on the boy's sleeve, then stepped sideways. She turned and pranced down the corridor, hearing her friend's feet patter behind and his questioning grunt. She pointed to a small alcove next to a bizarre statue, and eagerly dropped down to the stone floor, patting the ground next to her. They would be mostly out of sight here, but still able to see the hallway. The basement wasn't very busy anyway, especially now that classes were done for the day. As Nofalo slid down beside her, Eevana curled up her legs like a cat and smoothed her robe neatly. The fruit pie was set before the two, a masterpiece awaiting hungry thief fingers. The first-years exchanged a glance, both faces still flushed from the stealing and mirroring each other's happiness. Then Nofalo reached forwards and broke a bit of the decorative crust off. He popped it into his mouth and grinned, and hastily the Ravenclaw snatched up her own piece. Before long the two were scooping at the pie, fingers painted in blue and red of the berry filling.

It was late on a Friday evening, and the ceiling of the Great Hall was fading to blackness, purples and pinks of dusk melting into nighttime. The hall itself was already half-empty, for many of the students had vanished to the dormitories or elsewhere. It was still before curfew, though, and plenty of food lay upon the great tables, so it hadn't been deserted yet. Happy chatter rang through the room, along with the clinking of glass and silverware. Near one end of the Slytherin table, a pair of fifth-years sat enjoying the remains of a strawberry pie. A small girl with long braided hair and robes adorned with the Ravenclaw crest sat to the right of a tall, scarred boy with ruffled hair and the Slytherin crest upon his robes.

Eevana licked sticky red filling off her fingers. She stretched, reaching for her goblet of apple juice, and sipped contently before grabbing her fork and taking a delicate piece of the pie. With a soft and exaggerated sigh, she spoke. "This pie isn't half as good as the one we stole in first-year," The blond-haired youth stuck her bite in her mouth and chewed, a light smile playing over her lips as she reached for another piece.

Nofalo was bust savouring the flavour of the hot berries and warm, flakey crust when Eevana spoke. Her voice had changed as she'd aged, and he didn't really think about it much but he thought it was kind of pretty. Her voice, that is. He was sure his had changed too. He knew his voice was getting lower. Eevana had changed in other...ways as well. Of course. Only natural. He usually tried not to think about it. How one end of the year, they'd parted looking more or less the same as they'd looked when they met as eleven-year-olds in Diagon Alley--and the next September when he saw her he could tell she had grown. Sure, he'd gotten taller, and she had a bit too, but that wasn't really what he was referencing. But of course, as usual, he tried not to think about it. "Yeah, well, that's 'cause we stole it," he pointed out flippantly around his fork, "Felony always tastes better," he added, swiping another piece from the pie tin that was now nearly empty save for remnants of some slices and the smears of berry and soft crust. "Plus this one's just strawberry. I like mixed berry better anyways." He had managed to keep a smile from his face, but when he heard her poorly-concealed snort of laughter and felt the sharp elbow to his side, he nearly choked on his dessert as he too barked out a laugh. "Come on, you know I'm basically the best thing to ever happen to you! Where would you be without all of the adrenaline rushes our escapades have offered? Thanks to me, I might add," he said, turning to her and flourishing his hand to rest on his chest, smiling politely.

Nibbling on the fruity treat, she glanced back towards her companion. Catching his mild response, she fought not to smile, biting at the inside of her cheek and twisting her fork between fingers. However, a snorting noise escaped her, and she jovially nudged Nofalo. His further comments drew a vibrant smile across her petite face. "Bah," she chided playfully. "Do you know how much studying I could have done if we hadn't gone on all those adventures?" The Ravenclaw girl crossed her arms in mock irritation. Of course, she was quite glad she'd been able to take part in all those silly escapades. It was all thanks to Nofalo, really. He was right - she wouldn't be here so happy if they'd not become friends. Warmed by the thought, she set her fork down and glanced towards the fruity pie, of which there was very little left. She was tempted to toss something towards the boy, but with the choice it was either food or silverware, and that didn't seem very pleasant. She gently pushed her plate away, indicating she was done, and then turned her gaze back towards the Slytherin student. Eevana burped quietly, lifting a hand to tap her chest and clear her throat with a mumbled "Excuse me,". She rested her arms on the table, letting her eyes wander over the Great Hall, which was becoming emptier by the minute. It was Friday, which meant no waking early. Although, she'd likely rise before eight out of habit. Tomorrow she'd focus on her load of homework.

Nofalo crinkled up his nose at her, and then dropped his fork slid up closer to his friend to put his hands on her shoulders, gesturing to the Great Hall before them. "Studying? Studying?! Oh, my Eevana, sworking so hard at Hogwarts? Where would you be without me to set you free from such a prison?" he waved his hand dramatically, making a show of his facial expressions and ending with dropping his head in anguish on her shoulder. He nearly bit his tongue in half when the shoulder shrugged sharply up, and he scooted back quickly, laughing and holding his jaw. "Ow, you're mean," he grumbled, trying to pout but discovering it was difficult around a joking smile. Suddenly, he looked up. "Hey, it's snowing again! Wanna go outside?" he asked, eager at the prospect of landing a snowball in her face again. They always played out in the snow, every winter since their first year here at Hogwarts. It was one of his favourite times. He'd always liked snow, but he liked it even more now because it always meant long weekends of playing in the snow with his best friend, followed by evenings laughing in front of fires with hot cocoa and warm blankets. He was honestly so lucky that she had put up with him, so that they could be such good friends now. He'd have to show her how grateful he was--come to think of it, Christmas was soon, and he'd been debating about present ideas for a while.
