Season: Mid-Green-leaf.
Month: July.
Time: Around moon-high.
Weather: 70 degrees Fahrenheit, clear sky, but slight hint of storm in air.

She knew it would be soon. And, by StarClan, she couldn't wait much longer. Though there was a little fear of the birth, the frustrating wait had been hard to deal with, as well as the extra weight she carried. Many times her mate had caught her sneaking out and made her return to the cursed cramped nursery. Over and over again she wondered why she'd chosen this, but the small inkling of wanting her own kits had eventually won. Kits in general weren't her favorite beings, but she'd decided to put up with some of her own. Cedarclaw had expressed more excitement in them; he was a kinder soul who enjoyed the youngsters more so than his mate. Well, she was fine with that. He'd be a wonderful father. If he didn't shy away, that is. Greypoppy smirked a little.

The blue-grey tabby flopped down on her side, pressing her fur into the pine-needle-strewn ground. Of course, she wasn't in the nursery. It was almost moonhigh, and the camp was so silent and still. She had to be out in the fresh air; another minute more in the suffocating den and she'd have a fit. Lifting a paw, she swiped her tongue over the thick fur and cast her yellow gaze upwards to the star-sprinkled expanse above.

[[ so I was thinking that perhaps Greypoppy and Willowreach are long-time best friends, and they sorta "planned" to be in the nursery at the same time. (Maybe, if you don't mind and if this fits Willow's personality, maybe she sorta encouraged Grey to have kits? xD) Perhaps we could have the births begin in a few posts. ]]

[sure man I don't really care ;3 that works for meeeee.  I don't think she would encourage her, but I think maybe it could have sort of been on both of their minds and part of why they went on with it to have kits is because they could do it together to make it a bit more enjoyable.]

Willowreach woke again, blinking around the cramped nursery. It wasn't as cramped as it had been, as one of the older queens with many bouncing kits had recently moved out when her kits got older. Still though, it wasn't the most enjoyable of places. It was fairly comfortable though. Turning to look over her shoulder, Willowreach sighed as she saw that her friend was again not in her nest. She wasn't really annoyed, it just happened a lot. She rose to her paws, stretching, her extended belly nearly brushing the ground. She padded quietly out of the nursery, and soon found her friend resting on the cool ground.

They had partly planned to be in the nursery with kits at the same time, Willowreach and Greypoppy. They had been friends for a long time. Willowreach had been debating about having kits for a long while before Greypoppy suddenly asked her opinion about her herself having kits. Cedarclaw was fairly excited, though Willowreach's mate Hawkgaze did not show it if he too was excited. When she thought about it, Willowreach was fairly sure she was happy to be kitting soon. If anything, it will be nice not to carry this extra weight. She looked forward to see what kind of cats her offspring would become. She looked forward to seeing them succeed. She did not want to necessarily push them, but she also felt sure that they would excel. Hawkgaze, she felt, may be a bit more direct in his expectations of them. They would be strong, they would survive. She felt sure of that. She would make sure of that.

Willowreach sat beside her friend, letting her tail curl around her paws, her chin raised regally as it always was, even with her physical form being more rotund than it usually had been. "Trouble sleeping again, Greypoppy?" she murmured, not really worried about waking any-cat, but more because the air was so quiet around them. She glanced down at her belly, then her eyes flicked to her friend's. Her voice was hardly a whisper, but stated in a firm but not unkind way, "It will be soon."

The still atmosphere of ShadowClan's camp was broken only slightly by the faint crunch of pine needles. Pawsteps, soft and almost undetectable, reached the grey tabby queen's ears. She tilted her head, opening her jaws to draw in scent, and quickly recognized the aroma of her closest friend and fellow queen, Willowreach. She supposed the tortoiseshell-and-white she-cat had noticed her own absence yet again and decided to follow her out. As the other queen settled beside her, stretching out in the slightly awkward way that they did when their shapes were now altered. Willowreach's smooth voice made the grey queen half-shut her eyes and exhale a soft little sigh.

"As usual." Greypoppy answered softly, directing her yellow gaze towards her friend, a hint of a scowl rippling over her face. Following her denmate's line of sight she shifted her forepaws over the soft ground and let a disgruntled huff escape her jaws, a little louder than she'd meant to. Licking her muzzle, she glanced back to meet Willowreach's own gaze. "Too right it will. It'd better be." she sniffed, her thick tail stirring gently and rustling the pine needles. She made it stop moving after a moment, regaining control. "I'm clumsier than a brainless badger." Greypoppy snorted softly, her tone casual but her expression still displeased. She'd be quite happy to have these kits out of her. They did make her loose much of her agility, a trait she prized. The tabby queen opened her jaws in a yawn, and stared up at the sky again. "Hawkgaze seem any more interested than he was when you first announced you were gonna be getting fat?" she muttered with an undisguised flicker of curiosity in her tone as she returned her eyes to her companion. Willowreach's mate had never been much of a fan of kits, rather like Greypoppy herself, or at least that was what she observed of the striking tabby tom. Still, she wanted to know, if only to see what her friend thought of her mate. Certainly she wanted Hawkgaze's approval and even the faintest bit of excitement for their offspring.

[sure yeah that's fine  should we skip to grey's kitting after this post, and then sort of quick-speed/skip to willow's?]

Willowreach twitched her whiskers in agreement at Greypoppy's laments, and snuffled in amusement at her last words. Willowreach's thick tortoiseshell tail flopped lightly on the ground as she thought, considering the tabby queen's question. "Mmm...yes, maybe, now that you mention it. He has been visiting me more often in the nursery now that I'm further along. He actually groomed my stomach with surprising...tenderness the other day. He has been more affectionate than he usually is," she glanced down at her friend, a rare moment occurring as her green-hazel eyes softened and the calico queen let a quiet purr rumble in her throat--happiness being an emotion she did not often share--as she admitted, "It's quite nice." Willowreach knew her mate didn't know much about kits nor how to behave around them, and knew next to nothing about being a father. If he had worries about it, he didn't outwardly voice them. Still, she sensed he just may be feeling a bit more antsy than normal recently, and thought it may be related to the fact that she was due any day now. She and Greypoppy were both expecting to begin kitting within the next quarter-moon or so. She hoped all would go smoothly, but knew Mothnose--the ShadowClan medicine cat--would care for them to help them in their kittings.

She didn't know if she would necessarily miss being with kit, but somewhere deep in her heart she felt these moments were special. Willowreach lifted her gaze to the moon, breathing deep the warm, clear night air. With the Clan asleep around them, Willowreach was brought back to memories of her and Greypoppy's warrior- and even apprentice-hood. They had been friends for a long time, and there had been many a night when the two had sat out together and watched the stars, discussing where their lives were leading and where they had come from. They were the kind of calm, accepting friends who just simply understood one another, rarely had arguments, and even though they did not often overly display their affection, they cared deeply for one another. Willowreach was grateful for her friend's company, and grateful that they had been able to be in the nursery together and go through the early stages of motherhood side-by-side.

[I've added to Hollow's family--they've all got pictures, even the dead ones, so if any of the pictures are the same pictures you were gonna use or have used, lemme know and I'll change them. Also, if you want me to kill more of them off, I can, I don't really care at all ^^' ]

Tilting her head, Greypoppy studied her friend's face as she answered her question. Satisfied, she gave a subtle nod and let her gaze drift smoothly away. That was good. It was nice to hear the old grump of a warrior being intimate with his mate. The grey queen was not overfond of Hawkgaze, and she'd often jibed at her best friend for why she'd decided to become close to such a stingy tom. Perhaps she was being a little hypocritical, though. And she didn't really dislike Hawkgaze. She respected Willowreach's choices, and knew that the calico she-cat loved him. "Well, good of him." she rumbled huffily. Greypoppy stretched her legs forwards with a heavy sighing breath. Glancing down at her extended belly, covered in grey tabby fluff, she narrowed her eyes and sniffed. She assured herself that she didn't have but a few more days of suffering in this state.

-- skip a few days --

Greypoppy stirred as a painful ache ran through her body. It was early in the morning, so early that it'd still be considered night. Yet dawn wasn't but an hour or so away. The grey she-cat shifted onto her side with a groan, the moss of her nest crunching below her. What now? Was it time? She lifted her head, yellow eyes sweeping through the dark den, unable to make out the shapes of Willowreach and Fawnseed, her denmates. Another ripple of pain swept through her, and she gasped softly. "Frog-dung." she cursed under her breath as she rolled onto her stomach, wincing slightly. They're coming,  she thought with a flash of fear. Greypoppy staggered onto her feet, and plodded out of the nursery into the silent camp. She paused and ducked her head when more pain shot through her abdomen. She had to get to the medicine cat.

[[ wow Grey, way to be smart and not get Willow to find Mothnose for you. And okay, should I replace the ones on the family tree then? I'd already did everyone's relations (without asking [except I did mention Nettlenose being Hawkgaze's brother so I could link stuff together], because I'm stupid and overexcited) so that they connected with everyone in the Clan, but I can switch things out and stuff. ]]

[oh eh really? ^^' I didn't see any relations on the Allegiances thing so I just assumed you just did her family and was waiting for me to do mine...ohhhhh *clicks on Family Tree* i did NOT realise you could click on that....I think i tried to on my phone and it didn't work so I just assumed my phone was highlighting it for some reason >.<' but wait I don't even see any of mine (except Hollow obvi hah) on there anyways so what family tree are you talking about editing? and it's fine I mean I can just delete the ones I made it's not a big deal...]

Willowreach woke early. It wasn't unheard of for her to wake up at this time, but it wasn't exactly common either. She felt something had woken her, some disturbance. She lifted her head and cast her hazel-green eyes about her, immediately noticing that Greypoppy was again not in her nest. She lifted her tail in alarm. Something was happening. The queen scuttled to her feet and darted out of the den, still being careful of the load she carried. She saw her friend's tabby form, stumbling towards the medicine den. Willowreach sped up behind her, leaning lightly against Greypoppy's side to offer herself as a crutch. "It's happening, isn't it?" she whispered quickly, and at Greypoppy's strained nod, she bid her friend  hang on for a few moments as the calico queen sped through the camp as quickly yet carefully as she could, heading in the direction they were already facing. She butted her head through the hanging moss draping in front of Mothnose's den, and hissed urgently into the darkness, "Mothnose, quick! You're needed!" she did not waste time explaining, knowing that even if Mothnose was woken from slumber that the he would hear the urgency in her voice and perhaps even recognise her, knowing she was a queen and making the obvious leap. Somecat was kitting.

As Willowreach rushed back to Greypoppy, who was panting a bit now from the exertion coupled with her pains, she glanced once back towards the medicine den before she heard the scrambling of the medicine cat as he rushed to her friend's aid. He hurried out of the den, almost heading for the nursery before his eyes flicked to them and he ran over. "Greypoppy! Hurry, we can make it to the medicine den," he decided, at first confused as to why she'd gotten up this time of morning but quickly pushed it from his mind, intent on helping now, "it's not much further, let us hurry," he offered his weight to support the labouring queen on her other side, and together Willowreach and Mothnose got Greypoppy safely to the medicine den and laid her gently on one of Mothnose's large, comfortable nests that were always kept clean and tidy. Mothnose began rummaging in the medicine stores, and Willowreach settled down near her friend--enough room to give her space, but still be comfortingly close. "Do you want me to get Cedarclaw?" she murmured, prepared to help her friend in any way she could.

[I just assumed that Mothnose was a tom, because it didn't really say in the ShadowClan Allegiances list, but correct me if I'm wrong ^^' ]

The tabby queen heard quick steps behind her, and once again recognized Willowreach's scent as the she-cat hurried to her side. Her initial reaction was to pull away from the assistance, but she didn't have the strength to, so she merely nodded to the calico's question and stood still, panting, as Willowreach rushed off towards the medicine cat's den. She crouched down, her face twisted in agony. She heard another rumble of steps as her friend returned, and then moments later the thunder of Mothnose as the cream tabby darted out of the den, awoken by whatever the calico queen had said to alert her. Greypoppy lifted her head, sweeping her tail close and letting out a soft growling noise as more pain swamped over her. She nodded again, stepping forwards as both medicine cat and denmate supported her from either side. She was too strained to fight the help, nor was she mouse-brained enough to push against it. With a feeling of slight relief--soon washed away--she collapsed into one of the mossy nests and lay there, trembling slightly from the effort of moving while in great pain. Disoriented at first, she nearly missed Willowreach's question. Gathering her wits, the grey tabby jerked her head in a nod. "Get him...but..." she panted, "...don't bring him in. He's not...to see this." she swallowed, trying to catch her breath. Cedarclaw would be in the way if he came in and saw his mate like this. She wanted him here...just not here.

[[ ack sorry, Mothnose was supposed to be a she-cat. I'm stupid lemme go edit that in there... xD ughghhghg I feel so bad for being confusing blerrhggh -hides in corner- sorrysorrysorry ; n ; ]]

((omgg I'm rp-ing O.o I"M SO SORRY I TOOK FOREVER IM AWFULLhetnijawketnajwketwaet </////333 but don't worry about the confusion ^^' ily!!))

Willowreach nodded her understanding, and scampered out of the way towards the warriors den as quickly as she could. She poked her head inside, trying not to look to frantic, and cast her gaze about for the tom. He was, as most of the other cats in the Clan at this early hour, curled up in a nest among the other cats. Willowreach stepped over a silently as she could and prodded him in the side, probably a bit sharper than she would have if the situation were not as dire. As soon as he blinked his sleep away and saw the look in Willowreach's eyes, Cedarclaw jerked to alertness and asked in an urgent tone, "Greypoppy?" Willowreach nodded, panting, and twitched her ears in the direction of the medicine den. "But you aren't to go in. You can wait outside, if you wish." He looked disappointed, but understanding, and his shoulders were raised in a worried but determined aire as he slipped out of the den and went to settle himself outside the medicine cat's home, calling in a quiet reassurance to his mate before shutting himself up so as not to be a bother. Willowreach smiled grimly, knowing it was all Cedarclaw could do to not rush in to be by his mate's side. The queen walked back to the medicine den in a quickened pace, but still tired from the frenzy of the past several minutes. She nosed her way past the draping leaves into the den, and set about helping Mothnose prepare everything and anything that would be needed to help with the kitting. Willowreach and the medicine cat worked intently and swiftly, one of them darting over to Greypoppy's aid whenever she made to distressed of a noise to help however they could. Willowreach believed in her friend, and had utmost faith in the medicine she-cat, but still she hoped that this kitting would go as smoothly as possible. The sun had only barely begun to reach into the sky, but Willowreach knew it was to be a long day.

((gosh okay i hope that was okay. omg i remember like nothing of our rps O.o'''''))

[[ it's okieee<3333333333333333333 hahah but omg yeah x'D ]]

Sharp yellow eyes locked on the bedding, trying to distract herself from the heaving pain in her abdomen. It was when she heard her mate's voice that she jerked up, releasing a breath of frustration. She could not formulate words to reply, but was relieved to see her friend appear in the den once more. Cedarclaw was not at her heels, and Greypoppy thanked StarClan that he hadn't persisted. Laying her head back down, she groaned and squirmed, willing it to just be over already. The contractions grew steadily larger, and by now the tabby queen had torn the nest to shreds with her frantic clawing. She had never experienced such raw agony like this, deep within her. It was far different from battle scars. "Alright...kits. You're...coming....out!" she snarled, pushing with all her might, hardly hearing the sounds of the medicine cat and Willowreach. Now it was just her and the little bodies inside her, straining to reach the world. Through the pain she felt something slip onto the moss behind her. Greypoppy fell back, shivering, as the tremors slowed. But she wasn't done yet, she knew that. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Mothnose had grabbed the dark bundle, and was properly opening the sac and rubbing it. The kit released a strong mew, blindly scrabbling at the soil, and Greypoppy felt  rush of pride so strong it took her breath away. Just as that happened, though, the contractions built up again, and she leaned forwards, squeezing her eyes shut. This one took longer, she screeched just before it entered the world. Her claws made deep ruts in the terrain of the medicine cat's den. When would it end?!? The queen collapsed again, moaning. She was never, ever having kits again. She didn't even notice that her friend had grabbed the second kitten. All she knew was that the pain had lessened and she could breathe again. There was one more, she thought--things weren't finished. A longer lapse passed until she felt the urge to push again. Panting, she braced her forelegs against the ground. The third bundle slid out, much easier than the first two. Greypoppy knew it was done then, and sunk back to the torn-up nest, quivering but scowling. Despite the exhaustion that clung to her she heaved herself on her stomach and eyed the others as Mothnose took the final kitten. "Give me my kits," Greypoppy snapped, and the other two obliged. She tucked them to her belly. The first was a lean dark grey tabby tom. The second a lighter silver-grey tabby, also a tom. The third a scrappy looking pale tabby, a she-cat. Greypoppy stared at them, ignoring her surroundings. They were shaped weird...and squishy...but she supposed they were okay.

a story of dark and light [w/ wwb] Empty Re: a story of dark and light [w/ wwb]

Post  WalkingWithBarefeet Sun Feb 01, 2015 10:25 pm

Willowreach breathed harshly out her nose as she stepped back. The deed was done, and three little bundles lay huddled against Greypoppy's belly fur. Willowreach slinked out of the den, trotting through camp. The Clan would start to stir soon, and she intended to get back to the nursery and catch more sleep from the early-morning craziness before the Clan awoke with a clamour at the quick news of three new kits born.

Perhaps just barely over a day since Greypoppy had birthed her kits, Willowreach awoke from her slumber to cringe from the pangs in her abdomen. It was time. The moon was still high when the queen made her way out of the nursery den as quickly as she could, hoping to make it to the medicine den before the worst of the contractions started. As she finally pushed her way through the den entrance, the queen let out a raspy half-yowl half-growl in the direction of Mothnose's scent and the dark lump that was the medicine cat's figure in the gloom. Not waiting for the she-cat to rise, Willowreach stumbled over to the patient's nests and collapsed on the moss nearby Greypoppy's sleeping form. Her friend stirred, but only woke as Mothnose's surprised exclamations and rustling for herbs woke her. It felt like hours upon hours, but Willowreach at least let a sigh of relief as the last kit slid out with a wet plop on the moss behind her, the moon still high in the sky. Collecting herself, the queen cast her gaze about and grumbled at Mothnose to let her know that she was taking to long. The medicine cat--being too intelligent to snap at an exhausted new mother--quickly and carefully set the kit with it's siblings, checking to make sure her patients had everything they needed before she retired back to her nest. Willowreach looked up as Greypoppy's voice broke the gloom, "Welcome to motherhood, then," before the blue-grey queen turned her head to settle back into sleep. The tortoiseshell-and-white queen lowered her gaze to the three squirming kits huddling to her stomach. The first to enter the world was a she cat, with pale tabby-tortoiseshell markings. She was already lean and long-limbed, with perfect proportions for moving silently through the world. The middle kit was a tom with fur as black as the night, so dark the queen might not've been able to notice him in the darkness of the den save for the known birthing of three kits and the brilliant white splotches that marked his chest and the toes of each paw. He would be powerful and handsome, that Willowreach knew. The final kit was another she-cat, smaller than her elder siblings but no less in potential. She was dark in pelt like her brother, but she took on some of her mother's markings--the last kit had a peppered spot of tortoiseshell brown on half of her face near her eye, with a few stray brown hairs adding colour to her chest, the front of her neck, and just a little on her front legs and paws. The littlest of the three was a bit more animated, and Willowreach knew her spirit was strong. She would make sure her kits would excel. They would be the champions of ShadowClan.

[[ <3 -hugs- twas marvelous. I'm gonna go ahead and skip a few days after if that's okay, so they're all settled back in the nursery and named and everything? ^^ This can be like when they open eyes if that's cool? ]]

It was still dark when she woke. The nursery was quiet, but much fuller than it had been a few days ago. Then it had just been two kits, Fawnseed's litter, but now there were six new little scraps of fur. Greypoppy turned her attention to her own three, nestled at her side--wait, one was missing. The queen's yellow gaze snapped over towards a pale shape not too far away, huddled against the cool soil of the nursery floor. What was Mistkit doing out of the nest? Snorting, the grey tabby reached out her head and snatched up the smallest kitten, plopping her back down in the moss. The scrappy she-kit only sneezed and wriggled a little before going still and silent. Rowankit stirred, letting out a little squeak and paddling his hid paws against his sister, who merely rolled away with a groan. The commotion brought Pebblekit to life as well, and the eldest kitten swiped out a paw blindly towards his littermates, his muzzle wrinkling. Greypoppy lowered her head to her paws and huffed out a sigh as the kits fell still again. The pale-flecked one nosed around against the moss with determination. She wanted out of the nest again. She'd left it for a reason, and her mum had to go and stick her back in! Mistkit's little tail gave an irate twitch. Puffing out a breath, she squeezed her eyes tight, then forced them open. Woah. Suddenly a new sense was opened to her. Lifting a paw, she dabbed at the air, blinking to focus. Once things had stopped swirling she scuttled away from her brothers, peering around the den. There were more. More kits, and mothers. She lowered herself against the moss and spied curiously.

Post  WalkingWithBarefeet Mon Feb 02, 2015 5:20 pm

[[hee yus okays that's perf ur perf yus<3]]

Willowreach flicked her tail, trying to force herself into sleep as Darkkit again scrabbled little claws against her mother's stomach, trying to teach herself to jump even though her eyes weren't quite open yet. She mewled as she tumbled down, crashing into an irate Mutedkit who was woken from her own slumber and swatted lightly at her sister. Willowreach hoped the eldest would keep her younger sister under wraps long enough for her to get a bit of sleep. She felt the tom against her lower back, a little spot of warmth and light pressure over her hips. He tended to like sitting on his own back there, so she let him. Hollowkit was certainly a bit more like Mutedkit in his roughness of playing so far, but they were all still so young it was hard to tell much. Though it was easy for the mother to see how much he loved his sisters, in particular seeming to have a soft spot for Darkkit.

As he felt his mother's breathing lax into a more rhythmic state, Hollowkit continued trying to open his eyes. He'd only gotten just past slits so far, but it was so bright that it was hard to open them further yet. But he would! And now was the time! He shakily rose to his paws, little tail flailing against his mother's back as he struggled to keep balance on tiny kitten legs. Focusing his fluffy determination on his retinas, the kit braced himself and opened his wide eyes as large as he could, stumbling back with a little gasp at the rush of sensation and light assaulting his little body. He battled his instinct to let his eyes close against the brightness, and with a few quick blinks, the world's colours, previously unknown to him, swirled around and collected into shapes. So this was his home. Hm. A bit small. He would have to add on to it soon. That would be a project for another day. The little kit took several steps, following along the form of his mother. She had interesting pelt. White, with brown-black splotches. He believed it was called...tortoiseshell. Hollowkit soon found the curled forms of his two sisters. Darkkit was sprawled out underneath one of Mutedkit's paws, tucked tight against her elder sister. Hollowkit cast his gaze around the den, realising there were many others here. Of course, he'd known there were others from scent, but he hadn't known quite how many. Several other mothers, and several other kits. This was the nursery, after all. Hollowkit tilted his head to the side, sitting off a bit from his mother--his family's nest was in a front niche corner of the den, a bit away from others (he was quite glad his mother liked that, as he definitely preferred it, especially now that he could see). There was another kit who had open eyes, gazing about the den. Judging from the positioning of the nest the kit seemed to have stumbled just a few steps from, she was one of the kits of his mother's friend. Greypoppy, he believed her name was. Her kits...hmmm...their names were...Rockkit? And Fogkit? No no, it was Pebblekit. And there was Rowankit. And not fog but....mist, Mistkit. 'I think.' He had no idea which one this kit was, but it was turning it's head to look about the area same as he had. He sat watching it for a while, wide eyes taking in the sight of the first cat he'd seen awake, the first cat he'd seen moving--really the first cat he'd truly seen. Interesting.

[[ <3 ]]

Narrowed teal eyes darted over the other dim shapes, determined to pick out colors and scents. However, she had yet to place names. She'd heard a lot of words the past few days, and really the only ones she could match by scent were her siblings, mother, and father. And perhaps the nearest queen...Willowstretch? Willowfetch? Willowreach, that was it. She had a black blob sitting on her. It had eyes, vibrant green eyes, that were staring right at Mistkit. Oh. She scowled at him and crouched down, nestling herself among the moss, as if trying to hide her pale fur. Stop staring, she thought irritably, turning her gaze from the one kit down to peer through the bits of nest and inspect Willowreach's other offspring. Black-blob-kit was a tom, of course, while the other two were both she-cats. Reverse of her and her brothers, which she found odd. But the whole kitten population was even among genders at the moment, since the eldest kits, Fawnwhatever's litter, had one she-kit and one tom. They were nearing their fifth moon, if Mistkit remembered right. And six moons was the age to be apprenticed at, she knew that. Oh yes, that date was a locked target in her mind. One ear twitched as she swept her gaze across the mottled pelt's of her denmates, whose names unfortunately slipped her mind. She snuck a glance back to the darkest kit, perched on his mother's spine, then wriggled forwards, pulling herself out of the nest again. The nursery was cramped and boring, and she wanted to see the camp she'd heard so much about. With fierce determination she scrabbled and crawled and inchwormed her way to the den's exit, where faint light trickled in from the rising sun.

Hmm. That kitten was going out on her own. Dangerous behaviour, even he knew that. It was common sense. Even for females, the mothers of the den that was his world in these early weeks were far bigger than him, and from the horror stories he'd managed to persuade their mother to tell him on any rare occurrence, even the most seasoned warriors could be killed by any mishap in the world outside. Of course, that would never happen to him. He woud be greater than any of these other fools. Still, perhaps that female had a good idea. He ought to know this territory as soon as he could, and the first step was right out that threshold. The dark kit walked calmly with his tail high, one little paw after the other until he blinked in the sharp sunlight that was just beginning to rise over the edge of the ShadowClan camp. The other female kit was just a few steps in front of him, sniffing intently at some sort of fern that let out an herby scent. He walked forward until he stood next to her, but still perhaps a couple kit-lengths to the side of her. He watched her out of the corner of his eye as he cast a glance around the camp, sitting with his tail curled about his legs. Without moving his eyes from their forward gaze, he murmured a greeting, "Did you leave 'cause you wanted to explore out here?"

Woah, the place was big! Mistkit had to simply stop and stare for a short while, her eyes adjusting to the light and color, and ears to the noise. It wasn't too busy, there weren't but a few cats lingering around in view, but the wind made rustling in the trees' canopy above, and quiet conversation rippled from a couple of the felines about. The petite-framed kitten plopped her haunches down with a funny swaying movement, still not completely used to walking around, and nosed at a plant frond. She stiffened slightly as a scent swept through her nose, not one of the fern, but cat-scent. Spinning her gaze around, she spotted the black kitten, Willowreach's son, approaching her at a confident stride. She frowned, envying his easy movements. She continued to watch him as he settled nearby, but then directed her attention elsewhere when she heard his voice. Staring at a pebble just tail-lengths in front of her, she considered a reply. "Yes." her tone came out quiet yet raspy and cold.

Hollowkit let the wind ruffle his fur slightly, the tip of his tail twitching against his front paws. His little dark nose moved in small motions as he took in the scents that before now, he had only smelled just a bit when someone went in or out of the nursery and let through a waft of a breeze into the stiffer air of the nursery filled with the scents of mothers and rolling, mewling kits. In this early hour, the only living being he saw was the paler she-kit nearby and the occasional insect flitting lazily through the morning air. Sharp green eyes watched the sun warm up the camp that, before now, the two kits had only known from the slight scents and glimpses of the outside they'd gleaned from in between the vine tendrils that curtained the nursery from the main clearing of the camp. He considered her response for a few short seconds, but the words left his mind quickly. He sat, thinking of nothing in particular, just regarding their home in the quiet of early morning. Before he had much time to think of it, words quietly spilled from his mouth, "What is your name?" he voiced, again without looking at her at first. He had a few moments to consider his quiet outburst, and did not regret the words. He wanted to be sure. She was the first being of semi-interest he'd met in his life so far that wasn't related to him by blood. She was his age, and she was his Clanmate, so they would undoubtedly become apprentices together around the same time and live in the same dens for most of their life. If she survived that long. You never know.

The pebble remained dull and boring, so she turned her head away and faced the other kitten. His gaze was elsewhere, though, so she stared for a few moments, just looking over his dark fur and skinny yet well-fed build. After her quick inspection she dropped her gaze and twitched her ears as the other's voice rang out, almost a command. She flexed her tiny claws against the dusty soil, then opened her muzzle to respond. "Mistkit." she stated coldly, turning her attention sharply to him and sitting up straighter now, trying to match him in dominance. "Who're you." she returned, tone coming out more of a rigid statement than a question. She licked her muzzle, pausing mid-lick to taste the air. Cool, crisp, and overall refreshing. She much preferred it out here than in the stinky crowded nursery. Her shoulders bunched up as her narrow frame shrunk from a breeze, though she quickly puffed back out before the gust of wind had ended. Being small was not fun. It wasn't fair at all. She scowled, face wrinkling up in distaste as she lowered her gaze away from Willowreach's son.

He slowly turned his head until his eyes met her form. He breathed an outward sniff in something akin to sarcastic amusement as he saw her obviously try to sit up tall and strong. She was a she-cat, and already she looked to be a small one at that. Mistkit. As feeble as the morning mist, fleeing at the smallest hint of a breeze before dawn could warm the earth. He watched her for a moment, unblinking. "Hollowkit." he said, then suddenly stood and padded over to her, silent as he could be. He stopped right in front of her, sat down again and flicked his tail over his paws. Her eyes were baby blue, not yet taking on whatever colour she would grow to have as an adult she-cat. His own were a striking blue as well. He was fairly positive his mother's eyes were a pale leafy green, so perhaps his would be green as well. He continued to stare at her, sniffing the air quietly, taking in her scent. She still smelled like the nursery. He was sure he did as well. But underneath, there was a faint smell that he took for her unique scent. He wasn't sure if he liked it. He thought he actually might. He certainly did not dislike it. Hollowkit hummed deep in his throat, finally moving just to flick his tail tip. "It is...nice...to formally meet you," he drawled, unsure if it really was nice. He held his chin up slightly, showing off the white splash underneath.

Suddenly, Hollowkit's ears flicked back as he felt a shadow loom over him. He jumped up and swirled around, paws spread wide and low, ears back, eyes wide. There was a strong brown tabby tom cat standing directly behind him, his fur wild and his hazel eyes boring into Hollowkit's wary blues. He felt stupid for not hearing the warrior step up behind him, but in a moment Hollowkit caught the scent. 'Father...' his ears flicked up slowly, and he straightened, now staring back at his father with a matching gaze. The strong tabby male watched his son, then hrmph'd, glancing between his dark-pelted offspring and the pale-coloured she-kit. "Remember your courtesies, Hollowkit. She is your clanmate. Your denmate. Not a lowly rogue you can look down upon, as it were..." he trailed off, watching his son once more. "It's early. How did you open your eyes already?" he demanded. Hollowkit surprised himself--he did not quail under his father's sharp demeanor. He puffed up slightly, raising his voice a bit louder above his kittish mewl. "I made them open. I wanted to see my world," he stated, proud. Hawkgaze's eyes narrowed. Hollowkit faltered. "Your world? You are but a fletchling, small and weak. I could force you from this world with a twist of my forepaw. Is that what you wanted to see?" Hollowkit glanced at his paws, knowing he was wrong. "Answer me." his father's tone was sharp, sharper than before, and Hollowkit tried not to flinch. "N-no," he hated his falter, and scowled at himself, quickly raising his head to look up defiantly at his father, "No. I'm not strong yet, but I will be. I wanted to see so I could start to learn and grow. I want to be strong," he flicked his ear, the only sign of his fumble as his voice was slightly quieter, "Like my father." Hawkgaze regarded him again, and after what felt like forever, one of Hawkgaze's ears twitched, and Hollowkit felt himself relax. "Keep working, and you may just get somewhere close," at the words, Hollowkit felt his chest swell. That was practically a high compliment. He forced himself to keep his pride at bay, showing only in his glittering eyes. "Say goodbye to your friend. You're going back inside," his quick gaze landed on Mistkit again, and he added, "You should probably return too, she-kit. Your mothers will have my head," Hollowkit doubted that, but he pranced along as well, following beside and a bit behind his father. He watched how the strong warrior walked, his muscles moving underneath a thick protective coat, and Hollowkit tried to match the strength in his stride. Mistkit slid up near him. He looked behind at her, and smiled. He was riding high on his first interaction with his father. His father! He was definitely the best warrior in the Clan. And Hollowkit would surpass that, he vowed he would.
